Tom Smith to Join Cardiff Blues Coaching Team


Cardiff-based, one of the four professional Welsh regional rugby union team Cardiff Blues has come up with the list of teams including the coaching staff for the upcoming season. Tom Smith joining Cardiff Blues as forwards coach.  He has left his Liberty Stadium role of elite performance manager to join Blues.

During his career, Smith showed up for the Ospreys before being compelled to resign because of genuine knee damage. At the Ospreys, Smith went on to become Elite Performance Manager, also headed up their Anglo-Welsh Cup team.

Besides, academy forwards coach Duane Goodfield steps up to become scrum coach while current defence coach Richard Hodges continues in his role.

Head Coach, John Mulvihill said, “In formatting our new coaching group, I was aware of my responsibility to build on the foundations of the past, look clearly to the future and bring energy, knowledge, and excitement to our team.”

Tom Smith replaces the role of head coach Danny Wilson. He guided Blues to the European Challenge Cup before leaving to become one of Dai Young’s assistants at Wasps. Danny Wilson stated that at the time of formatting new coaching group, I was aware of the responsibility to build on the foundations of the past, helps to bring new knowledge and excitement to the team.

Wilson said, “I always wanted the best coaches in our program and I am very excited that we have four young Welsh coaches who are ambitious, knowledgeable and excited about our future.”
